the gathering

This is another example of how the telephoto lenses compress the depth of field. The photo was taken with a D50 and a Sigma 28-300. After the photo was taken , and during the post processing I discovered that in a long distance there was a sunk boat. I hadn't noticed it with naked eyes but the telephoto lens made it seem close enough.

early fishing

This photo was taken early in the morning. Again the Sigma 28-300 was used to bring closer both the sun and the boat. I also took care to use the roule of thirds for both of them

Another night photo

The following photo was taken this summer with my D300. I used just a little of the camera's flash ; just to light some parts of the subject that weren't lit by the street light. If I had used more power on the flash there would be a color difference between the different light sources. The final photo is a stich of two vertical shots.

night photo

The following photo was taken during a trip . I didn't have the sb800 with me. I had to use iso 800 and add just a little of the camera's flash to light the parts of the photo that were far from the street lights. What I like in this photo are the colors and the discreet use of the camera's flash

The dusk

The following photo was on of my first taken with the D50 and the 18-55 lens. The 18-55 is very cheap but it has very good optical quality

sometimes simplicity is beautiful

In the following photo I was attracted by the beautiful color of the flower. I used my NIKON D50 with the NIKON 70-300

Even cheap telezooms can give interesting results

The next photo was taken with a used telezoom that I bought for $140. It's a Sigma 28-300 lens (the old design). I used to carry it all the time because of the versatillity it offers. But since I bought the 18-200 VR I have used it only a couple of times mainly because of its poor low light ability to take sharp photos.
Besides that problem look how good depth compression is offered by a 300 mm lens. It can be clearly seen if you compare the relative size of the sun to the boat size.....
